Magumeri, the headquarters of Magumeri local government area came under attack this evening by a suspected remnants of Boko Haram terrorists.
Residence who fled the town confirmed that most part of the towm have been touched while smoke was seen billowing over the police station area.
Movement of the terrorists the source said, have been reported to the army based in Magumeri to ambush them, but nothing was done up to the time the army base was attacked.
Some of those who scampered for safety found their way to Maiduguri while others are currently taking refuge in the Bush.
All effort to contact the army public relations officer or the operation lafiya Dole spokesman proved abortive as he was said to be on road to Magumeri to ascertain the situation.Source: Bulama Yerima on Facebook
According to another source, the Boko Haram has just withdrawn from the villages and town.
They came in at least six Hilux, 10 motorcycles and some on foot. And they were over 300 Boko Haram insurgents. As they came into the town, they began shooting and the soldiers counter back but were overpowered and most of the soldiers fled.
The terrorists looted and burnt the barracks to ashes as well as the police station. Casualty figure unknown. Presently reenforcement from Gubio and Maiduguri are clearing the area. Large number of civilians reportedly fled the are. Incidence happened 1730 hours, 15th March.
