A Non Governmental Organization Borno Women Development Initiative in Collaboration with the Presidential Committee on The North-East Initiative (PCNI ) today 8th March Celebrate International Women Day 2017, at a host community IDPs settlement in Fori Ajajari, a suburb of Maiduguri the Borno state capital.
The interactive session was organized in order to reach out to the IDPs in the community in order to talk to them, face to face in a focus group discussion.
Speaking at the occasion, the Executive Director of BOWDI, Miss Fatima Fatima Askira said, ‘ Women have needs and priorities, today we were at their community to listen ‘ .
Also speaking at the occasion, the Senior special Assistant to the Borno state Governor, Hon Babazanna Abdulkarim, said ‘ The bottom up approach is key if we are to achieve sustainable development. And the top to bottom approach was the reason why a lot of poverty alleviation and economic empowerment programs fails. ‘
Earlier on, the coordinator of Borno Social Media Frontiers, Habu Kale Tijjani Yajiwa spoke to the women in Kanuri Dialect on the world women’s day and its importance reason of reaching out to them directly in their settlement in order to speak to them heart to heart.
A special breakout session was held by the various dignitaries that graced the occasion with the women in many smaller groups and listened to them. Surprisingly, almost all their plights and aspirations were similar.
